Tree of Life

I am feeling restless.

I’m craving change and yet every time I leave home, I cringe at how quickly the landscape is changing – more overpasses, skyscrapers and ever-expanding parking lots. I can barely see the mountain tops, and I live in British Columbia, Canada. From where I am sitting, I can see the river; sometimes I want to run with it.

Maybe I’m just ready for spring after a pretty chill winter, but these days, I’m finding it difficult to sit at my desk, let alone stay in it.

I’m pretty sure I’m not the only one who feels this way, so I wanted to pass on an activity that I have been practicing for the last couple of days. My naturopathic doctor actually gave me this assignment — I wish more doctors would prescribe visualizations.
Play Your Place

Tree of Life

Stand with your feet planted firmly on the ground hip distance apart.

Imagine roots spanning from your feet down into the earth.

Draw energy through the roots, through your centre and up and over your head.

Reaching your arms up and out, send the energy toward the sky.

Receive the energy from above, like leaves from the sun, and feel it move down through you, extending through your ever-expanding roots.

You can repeat as many times as needed and pair this with deep breathing and affirmations.
At the Feet of an Ancient Master

Earth teach me to forget myself as melted snow forgets its life. Earth teach me resignation as the leaves which die in the fall. Earth teach me courage as the tree which stands all alone. Earth teach me regeneration as the seed which rises in the spring.” – William Alexander
